Texas Instruments has begun construction on its newest semiconductor fabrication plant in Sherman, Texas, roughly 60 miles north of Dallas, marking one of the largest private manufacturing investments in North Texas history.
The project, first announced as part of TI’s long-term capacity expansion strategy, represents billions in capital investment and is expected to create thousands of construction jobs and eventually hundreds of permanent high-skill manufacturing positions. The Sherman facility will produce advanced analog and embedded processing chips used in automotive, industrial, and consumer electronics applications.
The groundbreaking underscores Texas’s emergence as a semiconductor manufacturing hub, bolstered by federal incentives under the CHIPS Act and the state’s business-friendly environment. Governor Greg Abbott’s office has actively promoted Texas as a destination for semiconductor investment, and the Sherman project follows other major fab announcements in the state.
For the Dallas-area economy, the Sherman plant has ripple effects. Suppliers, contractors, and service businesses across the northern suburbs of Dallas are positioning to support the construction and eventual operation of the facility. Economic development officials in Collin County and Grayson County have coordinated on workforce training programs to prepare residents for the specialized jobs the plant will require.
The project also highlights the growing importance of semiconductor manufacturing to national economic security. With global supply chains under pressure from geopolitical tensions, domestic production capacity has become a priority for both industry and government. TI’s investment in Sherman aligns with that trend, bringing critical chip production closer to end-use customers in the automotive and industrial sectors.
Construction is expected to take approximately two to three years, with the first wafers projected to come off the line by late 2028 or early 2029.
